Advertising Awards

An advertising award is one of the perks of working in an industry filled with long hours at work and countless failed pitches to clients. Successful campaigns do bring home awards colleagues admire and the competition envies. These awards always attract attention in advertising:

The American Advertising Federation receives more than 60,000 entries for its coveted ADDY Award each year. This award competition spotlights top advertising materials and campaigns created around the world.

The national awards include National Gold ADDY Awards, National Silver ADDY Awards, International ADDY Awards and Student ADDY Awards. Local awards ceremonies are also held among 200 advertising clubs throughout the United States.

To enter the competition, entrants must be members of the AAF. The first step to winning a national ADDY is by winning your local AAF chapter’s ADDY competition.

Award categories cover all aspects of the advertising industry. For example, point-of-purchase (POP), brochures and annual reports are all included in the competition.

The Clio
Agencies have been striving for a Clio award since the festival began in 1959. The Clio awards agencies, production houses and design firms around the globe for their work in advertising.

Eligibility requirements to enter the competition vary based on the category you’re trying to enter. All entries must be created for a paying client, except for the student category and for pro-bono work that was created for charities and non-profits.

The Clio Awards showcase everything from television to interactive advertising. A Hall of Fame category honors previous winners of the Gold award.

Gold Lion
The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival is usually held the third week of June in Cannes, France. The 2007 festival marks its 54th year.

The awards are open to anyone involved in advertising and communication. However, entrants and winners are generally the agencies that created the ads.

There are various categories available for the awards. For instance, Film Lions are handed out for TV and cinema advertising. Cyber Lions cover online ads. Outdoor Lions are awarded for billboard and poster advertising.
